Canon Period (? – 999)

Pre-Solar Calendar

• Grogar declared himself the first emperor of Equestria, creating countless monsters that roamed the world.
• Gusty the Great stole Grogar's bell and put him into a deep sleep.
• Unicorns, pegasi and earth ponies each formed small tribes and even kingdoms; conflict between the three tribes was frequent and brought on the Windigo disaster. The Windigos feed on conflict and strife: the fiercer the conflict between the tribes, the stronger they grew, bringing cold and wild winds to all Equestria.
• As the three tribes' kingdoms perished one after another in the ice and snow and the tribes migrated west as a whole, the last members of the three tribes came to their senses, ended their strife, formed the Three Tribes' Pact, and founded a unified Equestria.
• As Equestria developed, its six heroes — the “Six Sages”: Star Swirl the Bearded, Meadowbrook, Flash Magnus, Somnambula, Mistmane and Rockhoof — appeared and became the guardians of Equestria.

Solar Year 0

• Under Sage Star Swirl's tutelage, the young Princess Celestia raised the sun for the first time. Soon afterwards the six sages of Equestria were sealed away together in battle with the Shadow Pony, and Princess Celestia and her sister Luna took over Equestria, opening the era of the Two Princesses.

Solar Year 3

• King Sombra was sealed away together with the Crystal Empire, and the Crystal Empire vanished, buried under ice and snow.

Solar Year 100; Lunar Year 0

• Nightmare Moon, born of Luna's jealousy, was banished to the moon by Princess Celestia.

Solar Year 112; Lunar Year 12

• The ancient pegasus city of Timbucktu fell to a changeling invasion. Legend has it that the old king of Timbucktu, Orion, rose into the sky and became a constellation.

• Sunset Shimmer, the student Princess Celestia had placed great hopes in, defected and vanished without trace from Equestria.

High Castle Year 987; Solar Year 1100; Lunar Year 1000

• 22 June 987 (S01E01), Nightmare Moon returned. The six apprentices Princess Celestia had trained — Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie — used the Elements of Harmony and the magic of friendship to defeat Nightmare Moon and restore Luna to her senses.

High Castle Year 990; Solar Year 1103; Lunar Year 1003

• Summer 990 (S03E01), the Crystal Empire's thousand-year seal was broken. King Sombra returned to the Crystal Empire. Protected by Twilight Sparkle, the Crystal Empire's current princess Cadance and her husband Shining Armor, the Crystal Heart drove Sombra out.
• Autumn 990 (S03E13), Twilight Sparkle perfected the secret magic Star Swirl had left behind and was crowned “Princess of Friendship”.
• (Equestria Girls) Sunset Shimmer, missing for years, suddenly returned, stole Twilight Sparkle's crown and fled to the other world. Twilight Sparkle pursued and defeated her, resolving the crisis. Sunset Shimmer also realised her mistake and chose to stay on Earth.

High Castle Year 996; Solar Year 1109; Lunar Year 1009

• Summer 996 (the movie), the Storm King, leader of the Storm Empire that controlled the whole south of Equestria, launched “Project Sacanas” and invaded Equestria. The Storm King occupied Canterlot and briefly imprisoned the four princesses (Celestia, Luna, Cadance and Twilight Sparkle). Later, after General Tempest Shadow of the Storm Empire defected, the Storm King fell with his vast empire in Canterlot.

High Castle Year 997; Solar Year 1110; Lunar Year 1010

• Spring 997 (S08E01, E02), Twilight Sparkle led the founding of the School of Friendship to spread the knowledge of friendship to ponies and to non-pony species.
• 24 December 997, the timeline diverged slightly from the main timeline for the first time. In the School of Friendship's first year, on the eve of the third-from-last Hearth's Warming, the school's students were preparing to go home for the two-week holiday. The last lesson before the holiday — on the customs and history of Hearth's Warming — had to be cancelled because Teacher Twilight received a Map of Friendship mission. The students went home early. Hearth's Warming and the history of Equestria had never been widely known among the changelings or the other species. Apart from historians and street-corner fortune-tellers, few non-Equestrian species still remembered the legend of the Windigos.

High Castle Year 998; Solar Year 1111; Lunar Year 1011

• Spring 998 (S08E23), Applejack and Fluttershy visited the Kirin land and ended its long Silence; the kirins began cautiously testing their way out of the valley to contact the outside world. The reopened Kirin land visited its neighbours: the Unicorn Kingdom to the east, the Dragon Lands, and the Kingdom of Ornithia. Initial contact and trade were extremely limited, and the Kirin land remained largely closed, with the outside world knowing little about it.

High Castle Year 999; Solar Year 1112; Lunar Year 1012

The Final Battle

• 11 November 999 (S09E24, E25), the Final Battle. Unlike the main timeline, this time the iron alliance of Cozy Glow, Queen Chrysalis and Tirek — with the Windigos screaming overhead — shattered every species' will to resist. To the very last moment of the war, reinforcements never arrived. In that terrible disaster Starlight and Discord, having lost their magic, barely escaped from the Canterlot prison, but could not turn the tide: Starlight Glimmer interrupted the Triumvirate's spellcasting and tried to save the Mane Six, but only slightly delayed the tragedy. Starlight Glimmer was wounded and knocked unconscious, and was saved by Trixie, hiding in the shadows. Only the Mane Six, isolated and unsupported, were taken away with the two sisters to the place that had once held Tirek and Cozy Glow — Tartarus prison. The six sages were imprisoned in Canterlot prison.
• After the Final Battle, the Triumvirate left Canterlot and began conquering the various regions of Ponyville. In the process Tirek drained part of the ponies' magic in accordance with the plan, while Cozy Glow used Tirek's power to build her own initial army and ruling group; Chrysalis tried to take part in this process and to interfere in Equestria, but rifts gradually opened between the three victors and Chrysalis did not get her way.

The Post-War Transition (999 – 1002)

(The Solar and Lunar calendars will be omitted from here on)

Winter 999

• 16 November 999, the “Triumvirate” took over Ponyville. Trixie was found curled up in a cart; Starlight Glimmer, whom Trixie had rescued without the Triumvirate's knowledge, escaped disaster because she had been taken to Ponyville hospital. Although Chrysalis still harboured suspicions about the pony who had once destroyed her hive, the divided “Triumvirate” eventually compromised and appointed Trixie interim security chief of Ponyville, to supervise the town's current mayor 梅耶 in obeying the Triumvirate's rule.
• 24 December 999, the first Hearth's Warming after the Final Battle. Facing the Windigos circling overhead, the various species organised their defences in fear against the “Triumvirate” that might knock at any door. Queen Chrysalis left Equestria and returned to the Changeling Kingdom, hanged Thorax who had once betrayed her, and regained supreme power over the hive.
• In the Everfree Forest, the fugitive Discord and his animal friends pieced together a band that could barely be called a legion and began a guerrilla war against the Empire. The zebra Zecora also led the ponies who had fled to the Everfree Forest, organising with Discord a pony army among the trees and teaching the ponies alchemy between fights.

Spring 1000

• Spring 1000, after confirming the defeat, the Canterlot government improvised a Royal Committee to administer affairs in its place and began dispatching commissioners to the regions. The committee's chief commissioner, Fancy Pants, was responsible for negotiating with Cozy Glow and compromising with her in exchange for the existing political structure being left intact. The commissioners' duties included: proclaiming the continued existence and effective rule of the central Canterlot government to each region; where a region had already lost its political structure, the commissioner sent from Canterlot took over directly as its local leader; tallying the damage in each region and reporting it to the centre so that relief work could later be funded and organised; and, at Cozy Glow's request, quietly recording the resistance forces in each region for later handling.
• Because the Royal Committee appeared to have no direct connection with Cozy Glow, many regions cooperated actively with its arrangements early on. But at Cozy Glow's insistence, commissioners in some regions began to take over directly, arousing resentment. When the committee tried to take over Cloudsdale and Stratopolis by force, the former Wonderbolt Spitfire launched the “Free Stratopolis Movement” in Stratopolis, advocating non-violent non-cooperation.
• The Equestrian Education Association was merged into the Royal Committee, but retained a degree of autonomy in the Association's territory. 驹绝 (a member of the Royal Committee) sealed the School of Friendship a second time at the committee's request, and investigated the Everfree Forest (recording Discord's situation).
• The Ponyville Agricultural Reform: according to the forecasts of meteorologists and astrologers, Ponyville would face an unprecedented harsh winter within a few years, and early signs of cooling had already borne out these observations. The low temperatures sharply reduced the apple harvest, and the Apple family's orchard, run for a century, all but collapsed within a few months. Mayor 梅耶 had no choice but to decide on agricultural reform. Ponyville would fell its apple trees — stockpiling timber for fuel on the one hand, and preparing to plant cold-resistant maize on the other. This aroused the Apple family's resentment. As winter drew near, the reform progressed slowly because of the Apple family's obstruction; to guarantee winter heating, 梅耶 negotiated repeatedly with Granny Smith and arranged for Trixie's Ponyville security force to leave its posts and maintain order at the Sweet Apple Acres felling site.

The “Ghost Train” Incident

• 26 April 1000, the “Ghost Train” incident. Taking advantage of the chaos in Equestria's order, Flim and Flam actively expanded the Lomaki Group's business and began dumping shoddy goods on the surrounding regions. They soon set their sights on the Manehattan market far to the east — Lomaki and the area around eastern Manehattan were Equestria's only two large urban agglomerations; Flim and Flam had already largely controlled the Lomaki market, while Manehattan was still contested between several merchant houses and underworld forces, so they judged it was time to move into Manehattan. They prepared a whole trainload of shoddy goods to dump in Manehattan, intervening in and destroying its economy. In Ponyville the train was to stop briefly as planned and then leave, but an ambush by Discord in the jungle forced it to stay and load timber and refuel.
• Cozy Glow and Tirek set out to conquer Manehattan. In Manehattan, 乐善, having lost his Lomaki resort, found his talent for sowing discord useful once more. In a city where government had stopped and the streets had become a free arena for gangsters, the newly risen gang “乐善 Group” took the lead, proposing to stage a train accident to block the only road connecting Manehattan with the outside world, and so stop Cozy Glow's and Tirek's invasion. So a driverless, unregistered “out-of-control” train loaded with combustibles and explosives slowly pulled out of Manehattan.
• The committee inspection team led by 驹绝 arrived in Ponyville to investigate information about Discord. Starlight Glimmer, secretly recovering in Ponyville hospital at Trixie's arrangement, was forced to flee; she stowed away on the Lomaki train stopped at the apple orchard and hijacked it. Because 梅耶's improvised order delayed the train's safety inspection and pulled the Ponyville security force off its posts, the “ghost train” left Ponyville successfully and unmonitored.
• Not far outside Manehattan, the train from Lomaki collided with the suicide train arranged by 乐善, causing the “Ghost Train” accident that shocked Equestria.
• The accident was reported to the Royal Committee. On seeing the report, Cozy Glow dismissed 梅耶 for dereliction of duty — “violating imperial regulations by postponing the train's safety inspection of his own accord” — and the security chief Trixie was promoted to interim mayor.
• Starlight Glimmer escaped the accident, faked her own death, and set out on foot for Our Town.

Summer 1000

• The opposition within the Changeling Empire was essentially eliminated; almost all changelings returned to their unhatched state, and the few who refused were imprisoned, including Ocellus.
• Because of the train accident, Cozy Glow and Tirek temporarily abandoned Manehattan and turned to conquering the Quarry Farm and Appleloosa regions, appointing Royal Committee members to take over both.
• Tirek had by now obtained enough magic on the Equestrian central continent; he returned home, forced his father King Vorak to abdicate, and began to rule the centaur kingdom.

Autumn 1000

• The Crystal War — Autumn Offensive. Chrysalis, having unified the Changeling Empire, set about solving the changelings' hunger — she had promised her subjects to abandon the idea of “sharing”, because efficient “plundering” could obtain far more love than sharing. Chrysalis negotiated with Cozy Glow and decided to invade the Crystal Empire. Cozy Glow began widespread conscription across Equestria and the gathering of provisions for the attack, while Chrysalis got there first and led the changeling army straight to the Crystal Empire's front line.
• Thanks to the success of the agricultural reform, Ponyville's autumn grain harvest was abundant and its crops markedly more cold-resistant, so the losses from the winter's cold were minimised. Trixie, credited with supplying grain, was confirmed by the Empire as Ponyville's official mayor.
• The Manehattan tunnel affected by the “Ghost Train” incident finally reopened and Manehattan restored its connection with the outside world. By then the gangster battle royale in Manehattan was over: the victor 乐善 had organised a black empire ruling all of Manehattan and began extending gang power into other areas along Equestria's eastern coast under the name “乐善 Group”. Preparing for war with the Crystal Empire and unwilling to divide her attention, Cozy Glow tried and failed to intervene in and peacefully take over Manehattan, then tacitly accepted 乐善's rule and sought cooperation instead. The pragmatic 乐善 acknowledged Cozy Glow as overlord in exchange for autonomy in Manehattan, free of Canterlot's direction.
• Tirek's centaur kingdom began a war against the griffons and dragons, but without making great territorial demands: it required only that they submit and pay regular tribute in slaves and treasure to the centaur kingdom. The centaurs became the master race of the Griffonian continent, and Tirek enjoyed broad support among the upper- and middle-class centaur nobles.

Winter 1000

• Invading a land of ice and snow in autumn was, plainly, a bad strategic decision. Once the Crystal War broke out, the changeling army was soon dragged into a war of attrition in the Crystal Empire. Cadance and Shining Armor and the Crystal Empire's army, having prepared for a year, clearly exceeded Queen Chrysalis's expectations. With the help of the winter blizzards the changelings were forced to withdraw and the Autumn Offensive was declared a failure. Chrysalis then asked Cozy Glow to send Equestria's hastily assembled new army in support, and Cozy Glow began to take the leading role in the Crystal War.
• Seeing the Changeling Empire bogged down in the Crystal War, Zecora left the Everfree Forest and returned to the zebras to help them resist the Changeling Empire.

Spring 1001

• The Starlight–Discord Uprising. Starlight Glimmer and Discord launched their first uprising and began marching on Canterlot, hoping to overthrow Cozy Glow and her puppet Royal Committee; the “Free Stratopolis Movement” also became radical at the same time, demanding that the Royal Committee grant autonomy to Stratopolis and Cloudsdale.
• In the south, Quarry Farm and Appleloosa had always existed in family form, and the commissioners sent by the Royal Committee could not hold them for long. Within a single year Quarry Farm was the first to overthrow the Royal Committee's administration and return to the pre-war family model. With Quarry Farm's help, in Appleloosa Braeburn and Sheriff Silverstar launched a coup led by the police and members of the Apple family, seized Appleloosa's municipal power by force, and returned Appleloosa to family rule as well. The Empire did not recognise the autonomy of these two regions, but facing war on three fronts — the Crystal Empire, the uprising and rear-area autonomy — Cozy Glow had to abandon support for Chrysalis, make peace with Quarry Farm and Appleloosa, and concentrate on suppressing Starlight's and Discord's uprising.
• Further south, on Storm Island, after the Storm Empire's fall the Equestrian garrison there had kept order. After the Final Battle they began taking in refugees and cooperating with the Storm Empire's natives, organising a resistance. Twilight Sparkle's student Sandbar and the guard captain Flash Sentry jointly issued the “Address to All the Peoples of Equestria” there, announcing the founding of Free Equestria. To support the Starlight–Discord uprising they actively sent troops south through the mirror portal to the northern front. Most of these troops were ponies, but a few were of other species, including storm creatures; the Free Equestrian government promised to grant them and their families citizenship after Equestria was restored.
• The Empire gradually gained the upper hand in suppressing the uprising, but this unexpected war left provisions short, and Cozy Glow gave Trixie and Ponyville full responsibility for solving the food problem. Tasked with this, Trixie styled herself “interim regional chief of the Ponyville region” and visited Appleloosa, offering to guarantee grain and military supplies to Canterlot in exchange for Canterlot's recognition of Appleloosa's and Quarry Farm's autonomy. The “Ponyville–Appleloosa Trade Agreement” was signed successfully, Cozy Glow's army's provisions were secured, and Trixie was made official regional chief with Canterlot recognising both regions' autonomy.

Summer 1001

• The Crystal War — Summer Offensive. Cozy Glow's army beat back the joint offensive of Starlight and Discord, and armed uprisings across Equestria were almost entirely suppressed. With provisions secured by the trade treaty with Appleloosa, Cozy Glow resumed the attack on the Crystal Empire, and the Summer Offensive successfully advanced to the walls of the Crystal City. But that was as far as it went: the Crystal City held out, the Crystal Empire could not counter-attack, and the two sides fell into stalemate.

Autumn 1001

• The Lomaki Group continued to expand. The two brothers asked the Empire to let them monopolise the market in Lomaki and its surroundings in exchange for supplying the Empire with new weapons. Lomaki also used its technological edge to threaten Cozy Glow, hinting that it could assassinate her important officials at any time, or even... so long as the Empire did not affect Lomaki's profits, the two sides could keep cooperating.
• Seeing the Crystal Empire's winter approaching and unwilling to be dragged into another long standoff, Cozy Glow and Chrysalis offered peace, threatening to shatter the Crystal Heart's shield — if it broke, both armies would perish together in the blizzard. Having been through a long war and gradually losing ground, the Crystal Empire had no choice but to take part in the talks to avoid the worst outcome.
• The Crystal Empire Armistice was signed. In the negotiations Cozy Glow had the most bargaining chips because her Summer Offensive had had the greatest success, followed by Cadance and Shining Armor, who had held out; Chrysalis gained little initiative and merely demanded a guaranteed supply of love for the Changeling Empire. In the end Cozy Glow required the Crystal Empire to recognise the Equestrian Empire in name while remaining substantially independent; Cadance and Shining Armor had to abdicate and Flurry Heart succeed; the Crystal Empire was to form a council on which both the Equestrian Empire and the Changeling Empire would have the right to participate in decisions; and the Crystal Empire had to pay the Changeling Empire an annual tribute of love as a percentage of the whole country. Chrysalis obtained the Crystal Empire's tribute of love — but when the Crystal Empire was nearly destroyed by war, the “endless love” the changelings had dreamed of melted away with it, and the changeling army that greeted victory still went hungry.

Winter 1001

• The Canterlot Agreement. The Triumvirate returned to Canterlot; the Crystal Empire Armistice and the Canterlot Agreement came into force one after the other, the war ended completely and the post-war order was established. Cozy Glow moved from behind the scenes to the front, gradually displacing the Royal Committee and building the Equestrian Empire. The Equestrian Empire, the Changeling Empire and the centaur kingdom each marked out spheres of influence, non-aggression and mutual assistance.
• Under the Canterlot Agreement the Equestrian Empire began consolidating its administrative regions, merging towns, cities and regions into governorates, and Trixie naturally became governor of the Ponyville region. But the creation of the governorates also aroused discontent across Equestria: unable to mount uprisings or rebellions, people nonetheless attacked governors, refused to pay taxes and rioted repeatedly.
• The Royal Committee's Fancy Pants proposed that the Empress hold “controllable” elections in each region — sham elections — to legitimise the appointment of governors, and the process of converting the governorates into elected duchies began. Fancy Pants's plan succeeded. Soon the conflicts in each region shifted from resisting the centre to internal struggles between regions: for example, the split within the “Free Stratopolis Movement” — if Cloudsdale and the surrounding area were to elect a single duke, would Cloudsdale have the right to govern Stratopolis? Should Stratopolis, with its smaller population, be given a greater voting weight? And so on. But at the same time, the newly founded Equestrian Empire had no ability to exercise genuine “control” over the regions, which indirectly caused Cozy Glow and the Canterlot centre to lose part of their power without noticing.
• After the Starlight–Discord uprising failed, Discord found the diary that connected to the human world in the castle, and Starlight used it to contact Sunset Shimmer.

Spring 1002

• May 1002, the New Ponyville Declaration. Sunset Shimmer began crossing the portal and reached the Storm King's island. Free Equestria was then mired in the crisis caused by resistance to conscription; on learning of it, Sunset Shimmer decided to ease the tension on the island. Using her status as an outsider and her communication skills, she succeeded in inviting representatives of the various factions within Free Equestria, and cajoled and persuaded the state representatives to talks in New Ponyville. After a full day of tense discussion and strenuous mediation by Sunset Shimmer, the states agreed to continue under the Free Equestrian government while retaining a great deal of autonomy, and the representatives of Freeport and the island's factions could form parties to take part in the government. The parties then signed the New Ponyville Declaration, providing that Free Equestria is a federal republic of seven equal states with a parliamentary republic as its form of government and the vote for every adult citizen; it also served as a provisional constitution. From then on Free Equestria's democratic era began.
• Trixie was rated a model governor; but Cozy Glow, who had lived through the Starlight uprising, began to have doubts: why had the fugitive Starlight Glimmer, reported dead, appeared in Ponyville? And she began to suspect an important matter that had been played down — the relationship between Starlight Glimmer and Trixie.
• The Ponyville Election. Under Trixie's protection Ponyville escaped most of Cozy Glow's tyranny, becoming one of the few regions on the Equestrian central continent free of famine and riots and, remarkably, keeping positive economic growth. Trixie's popular support was therefore already good, and with a sham election following the ceremonial procedure fixed the previous year, she became the elected duke without suspense. Although Cozy Glow now began to guard against Trixie, she had no substantive evidence and could only acquiesce. Cozy Glow tried to consult old records — about what Trixie had done in the Final Battle, about Trixie's relationship with Starlight, about the true report of the “Ghost Train” incident, about how the trade agreement between Ponyville and Appleloosa had been signed... but the clever Trixie had plainly left no evidence — “Was the winter of 1001 harsh? No, that winter was excellent; we lost countless embarrassing documents in Ponyville's severe snowstorm.”
• The Cloudsdale Election. In the early election plan Stratopolis had been included in these regions, but the interference of the “Free Stratopolis Movement” prevented the election from proceeding normally. The delegates from Stratopolis were almost all supporters of the Movement, including its leader Spitfire, who attended in person. Large numbers of Movement members voted firmly for Spitfire and opposed every other high-polling candidate. After forty-two deadlocked rounds, with the imperial government about to intervene by force and both sides at daggers drawn, an innocent postman, Derpy, happened to pass the polling station, and a Cloudsdale delegate petulantly proposed that Derpy be made lord instead. That petulant ballot, by a strange twist, won just enough votes to be elected. After the electoral commission checked the rules it confirmed that even though Derpy was a Ponyville resident she could become lord of Cloudsdale and the surrounding area because she was a pegasus — and Derpy, having been told that taking part meant muffins, naturally had no objection. The “Free Stratopolis Movement”, the Cloudsdale localities and the Equestrian imperial centre all treated the election as a kind of victory, each believing the other had not got what it wanted. In the end the Cloudsdale election inexplicably produced a postman from Ponyville, Derpy. As for Derpy, she did not quite understand what had happened; it seemed only that her postal work had gained a few more items: issuing a few decrees, or going to Canterlot for meetings — nothing more.
• The Stratopolis Election. Stratopolis was a small region of little value, so its politicians concluded that Canterlot would not spend heavily on a permanent garrison to keep order there; whenever the Empire came to hold them to account they kept silent, and no sooner had it left than they picked up the banner of “freedom” again and shouted. After little Stratopolis had wrecked the Cloudsdale election too, and after Empress Cozy Glow had signed the absurd agreement making Derpy the elected lord of Cloudsdale, she finally grew tired of it and gave up control of Stratopolis. As part of the additional clauses, “Stratopolis” — mentioned twice, inconspicuously, in a footnote — finally obtained the autonomy it wanted. The former Wonderbolt Spitfire was unanimously chosen as leader of the Stratopolis Dominion as head of the “Free Stratopolis Movement”, but both Spitfire and the people of Stratopolis understood — nobody cared much either way.

Summer 1002

• Empress Cozy Glow saw the potential in 乐善 and began secret talks with him: the Empire would tolerate the slave trade in Manehattan, and Manehattan would supply cheap slaves to the Empire's mines and army. In addition, the Empress would recognise 乐善 as mayor of the free city of Manehattan and, while inviting him to the coronation, would hold a secret meeting to establish the Imperial Order Department with 乐善 as its behind-the-scenes head.
• Sunset Shimmer's measures successfully eased the tension and averted a greater conflict. The New Ponyville conference made everyone look at this girl named Sunset Shimmer with new eyes. Over the following period Sunset Shimmer used the notebook to put Free Equestria in contact with Our Town, and brought some novel technological products never seen before; and because of her open, straightforward character, all the factions in the government got on well with her. In the end, though she was not especially willing, she was elected “interim Prime Minister” of Free Equestria by an overwhelming margin.

The Coronation of Cozy Glow

• 24 June 1002, the coronation of Cozy Glow. After more than half a year of preparation, Empress Cozy Glow was finally ready for her formal coronation; the coronation ceremony and the imperial investiture of lords were held. Trixie was invested as Duke of the Ponyville region, Derpy as Duke of the Cloudsdale region, Spitfire became head of the Stratopolis Dominion, Braeburn became chief of the Appleloosa Autonomous Region, Limestone Pie became chief of the Quarry Farm Autonomous Region, 乐善 became mayor of the free city of Manehattan (and secretly head of the Imperial Order Department), Snips and Snails became the Empire's ministers and deputy ministers of defence, the Lomaki Group obtained the exclusive franchise for the Lomaki Special Economic Zone, 油嘴 became Minister of Industry and 滑舌 Minister of Science and Magic, 火光 and 恒星耀斑 took turns as Minister of Trade, and 驹绝 remained president of the Equestrian Education Association (since the Association could not be replaced and no full agreement had been reached with it, the imperial education department was temporarily left vacant).

The New Order Period (1002 – ?)

Winter 1002

• 1 December 1002, the mod's timeline begins. Because the game mod may have several different story paths, in what follows we narrate according to the main story path; events outside the main path will be specially marked.

The New Era

• 24 December 1002, on the eve of the last Hearth's Warming, faced with small-scale riots breaking out everywhere, the Triumvirate met again in Canterlot to discuss a joint solution. Empress Cozy Glow pointed out: “The Hearth's Warming the ponies established originated spontaneously among the people, with the original aim of spreading the idea of unity and cooperation in order to fight the Windigos. Practice shows that Hearth's Warming has not served its intended purpose of uniting the ponies against the Windigos; instead it has become a tool for the many old Harmony forces led by Starlight Glimmer to attack the legitimacy of the Equestrian Empire's government.” The Empress then proposed abolishing Hearth's Warming and replacing it with a new festival. Queen Chrysalis agreed with the proposal: “The changelings' custom of celebrating Hearth's Warming comes from the instigation of the war criminal Twilight Sparkle; it is a cultural export by the ponies and does not fit the reality of friendly, equal coexistence between ponies and changelings.” Lord Tirek suggested the new festival be called “the New Era”, to commemorate Equestria's entry into a new age under the Triumvirate's leadership; he also stressed that the festival's purpose should have unity and security as its keynote. Empress Cozy Glow and Queen Chrysalis agreed.
• 25 December 1002, the New Era. The New Era formally replaced Hearth's Warming. On that day the six pony war criminals led by Twilight Sparkle were executed by blunt instrument; the two former Equestrian princesses, Celestia and Luna, were sentenced to life imprisonment in Tartarus prison; and the six sages were sentenced to life imprisonment in Canterlot prison.

1003; New Era Year 1

• 1 February 1003, The Heavy Griffin is published. A. K. Yearling finally released a new Daring Do book, telling a distinctive story: Daring Do comes to a fantasy world whose history is completely different from this one. In that fantasy world the Mane Six defeated the Triumvirate in the Final Battle. “It was a world full of harmony, a world every pony yearns for...” Yearling wrote. The Imperial Order Department immediately declared The Heavy Griffin a banned book, stopped its printing and publication, and required all ponies holding a copy to hand it in within seven days. The Department issued a warrant for A. K. Yearling.
• February 1003, the Meteoric Iron Incident. The Equestrian Empire's state security department secretly destroyed the railway at the border between Quarry Farm and Appleloosa and falsely claimed meteoric iron had caused it, sealing the site and refusing investigation. A small-scale clash followed between the Equestrian Empire and Appleloosa, ending in an imperial victory; the Empire once again demonstrated its ability to manage the regions effectively, but Appleloosa's conduct also quietly sowed the seeds of resistance in various places.
• March 1003, the six sages escaped from Canterlot prison and disappeared.
• 5 May 1003, according to treasury statistics the Equestrian Empire's finances were in deficit and tax rates had to be raised sharply, arousing discontent among the people of Canterlot and the surrounding area.
• 17 June 1003, serious organised anti-imperial political crime increased sharply in the imperial centre's jurisdiction. The tax rise stirred resentment among a great many ponies, and slogans disrespectful of the Empress began circulating. Empress Cozy Glow ordered a crackdown.
• 21 June 1003, the Equestrian Empire's first Summer Celebration. Outsiders began to notice that there seemed to be discord between Empress Cozy Glow and Duke Trixie. Fairly obvious contradictions appeared between them; Queen Chrysalis, on learning of it, thought she could make use of it and hoped to stir up the Equestrian Empire's internal conflicts. The Equestrian Empire and the Changeling Empire gradually entered a state of cold war.
• 9 July 1003, the “Imitator Movement” breaks out. Hit by the Order Department's crackdown on anti-Empress speech, ponies turned to irony. They imitated the Empress's slogans, paid her sarcastic praise, and even began imitating her dress and mocking her image.
• 12 July 1003, large numbers of ponies gathered in Canterlot to protest against the Equestrian Empire's tax rise. Although the imperial centre sent out large numbers of police and troops, and several bloody incidents occurred, they could not disperse the ponies gathered in Canterlot.
• 14 July 1003, the tide is eternal. Ponies tried to force their way into and damage Canterlot prison. In the end the ponies were dispersed.
• Around July 1003, first contact. Trixie met a changeling agent lurking in Ponyville; Trixie tacitly allowed limited, small-scale changeling activity in Ponyville, while the changelings supported Trixie and helped her keep as independent as possible from imperial rule.
• August 1003, the Ponyville Winter. The Ponyville winter the meteorologists and astrologers had predicted finally began, with marked cooling and snowfall already in autumn. Ponyville was forced to restart the agricultural reform interrupted by the “Ghost Train” incident. Under Trixie's leadership the second agricultural reform carried Ponyville through the winter of 1003 — but further winters kept coming and temperatures kept falling, sorely testing Trixie's public support. The second reform sharpened the contradiction between Trixie and the Apple family; relations between Appleloosa and Ponyville grew tense, drawing the Cherry family, the Pear family and the buffalo tribes at their border into the tension.
• 26 August 1003, the Canterlot bombing. Canterlot railway station was attacked with explosives. At the same time a videotape was sent to media outlets: in it an “imitator” dressed as Empress Cozy Glow incited the people to rise with her on 5 November, and declared that on 5 November she would “kill Cozy Glow”.
• 10 November 1003, the Crystal Empire held a crystal assembly. After two years of peacetime recovery its scale had almost returned to pre-war levels. The Crystal Empire's economy began to recover and its politics leaned towards independence. The succeeding Flurry Heart and the royalist forces remaining in the government expanded; although the Crystal Empire remained under the tight control of the Equestrian and Changeling Empires, in the Crystal Empire council elections the royal family's support kept rising, surpassing the Unity Committee appointed by the Equestrian Empire and the changeling advisory group appointed by the Changeling Empire.
• 5 November 1003, the “Imitator Riot”. Coordinated by the Order Department, the Equestrian imperial guard had begun martial law and curfew a month earlier, and the imperial ministry of defence had detached troops to station in central Canterlot and the surrounding area; from 4 November central Canterlot was fully sealed. The day of the uprising finally came, and large numbers of “imitators” dressed as Empress Cozy Glow appeared in the Equestrian Empire's major cities. In central Canterlot the police and troops, following orders, used force against “imitators” who refused to obey... it was a night that will be remembered forever. As the bell struck midnight on 6 November, a televised address by Cozy Glow herself in person ended the prophecy of “killing Cozy Glow”, and under police and military suppression the crowds of “imitators” in each city soon dispersed. The Equestrian Empire returned to its former calm — but at the centre of the vortex, in the square in central Canterlot, the police had not yet managed to clear the square of the bodies of “Cozy Glow” left there the night before. In a sense the prophecy succeeded — on 5 November, “Cozy Glow” was killed, not by the insurgents but by the imperial police and army.
• 15 November 1003, the raid on Manehattan. In its official broadcast “Starlight Radio” the resistance reported the anti-pony outrage of the slave trade in Manehattan and used it as grounds to attack Manehattan. Because Manehattan's mayor 乐善 was entangled with the Empire, the Empire did not intervene directly.
• 25 November 1003, New Era Day. The Equestrian Empire's anniversary celebration of the New Era.

1004; New Era Year 2

• March 1004, after Ponyville had already got through the winter, Cozy Glow belatedly telephoned her greetings. Half-threateningly, she sold Ponyville — at a raised price — the excessive shoddy fuel oil the Empire had been tricked into importing by Flim and Flam, dressing forced sale up as “help to get through the winter”. Ponyville then built a great many oil storage tanks to deal with this excess shoddy fuel that could neither be used nor simply dumped. Experts pointed out that the tanks carried fire-safety risks, and Lomaki took the opportunity to demand a high consultancy fee for safety maintenance experts.
• May 1004, “Project Green Light” is launched. Cozy Glow was unhappy at Trixie's growing inclination towards independence, and the Starlight Resistance was also advancing steadily, about to come into direct conflict with Ponyville. To prevent Trixie from betraying the Empire at the critical moment, Cozy Glow realised the oil tanks could become a way of controlling Ponyville: the fire-safety inspection team sent by the Empire would secretly plant bombs on the tanks, and once that was done the Empire could threaten to blow up Ponyville to keep Trixie loyal. It could go further still — the imperial army would withdraw from Ponyville and let Starlight Glimmer's army advance with a “green light”, and after Starlight Glimmer took Ponyville the bombs would be detonated, burying Starlight Glimmer and Trixie together in Ponyville. This was called the Empire's “Project Green Light”. The top-secret plan began to be implemented under the supervision of the Imperial Order Department and several other departments, and Trixie knew nothing of it from beginning to end.
• 5 July 1004, Free Equestria's human Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer jointly published The Mathematical Principles of Natural Magic, opening modern magical theory.
• September 1004, the Nirik Riot. For reasons still unclear, a violent conflict broke out in the Kirin land: a portion of the Nirik population rose in rebellion against the dominant kirin government. Little is known outside about the Kirin land; the mainstream guess is that the civil war was the result of long-accumulated contradictions between the two kinds — kirin and Nirik — finally erupting. But some scholars who had visited the Kirin land said there is no physiological species difference between kirin and Nirik, and that the conflict was more likely due to other political, economic or religious causes. The Kirin land lies on the continent of Kirinsol, south-east of the Equestrian continent; its main species are the kirin and the Nirik. Historically kirin and Nirik had clashed many times, but relations had eased in recent years. The Kirin land had long had no contact with the outside world; it began to open up only when war broke out on the Equestrian continent, and outsiders still know very little about it.
• Winter 1004, the Changeling Central Intelligence Agency and the Starlight Resistance learned of the existence of “Project Green Light” one after the other through their respective agents planted in the Empire. Although the changelings were in a secret cooperative relationship with Trixie, they did not tell Trixie; Starlight Glimmer's resistance was then facing off against the Ponyville army, which Cozy Glow had ordered to hold Ponyville and eastern Equestria to the death, and Starlight Glimmer hesitated over whether to tell Trixie.

1005; New Era Year 3

• February 1005, the Anji Conflict. Since Anji entered its age of city-states, the cities had got on reasonably well under the framework of the Anji League Assembly. There was occasional friction between the three species — jackals, pegasi and cats — but they largely kept restraint. In recent years, as Lomaki and Free Equestria had one after another set their sights on Anji's rich resources, goods and orders poured into Anji and tensions between the city-states gradually rose. The immediate trigger of the Anji Conflict was that the jackals, backed by the Lomaki Group, began buying military equipment ever more frequently and cut off other city-states' trade routes. The neighbouring Successor States of Cleopatra were the first to object, demanding condemnation at the League Assembly. As the jackals refused to accept the assembly's outcome and withdrew from it, the Successor States of Cleopatra — which had already wanted independence — also withdrew, condemning both the jackals' aggression and the assembly's inaction. The framework of the Anji League Assembly gradually collapsed. Sensing the danger of war, the cats living in Anji formed a separate league and declared neutrality, while the remaining city-states in the assembly joined in suppressing the jackals and the Successor States of Cleopatra.
• Spring 1005, the Battle of Ponyville. War finally broke out between the Starlight Resistance and Ponyville's defenders. Because the imperial army, following “Project Green Light”, refused to join the fighting and commanded only from the rear, the Starlight Resistance advanced rapidly to the outskirts of Ponyville.

The Changeling Civil War

• 1005: the bellicose Changeling Empire met setbacks in every direction — the Crystal Empire, the zebras, Tartarus, the reindeer — and the famine inside the empire grew worse. The changelings, who had once been made to submit to the Queen by carrot and stick, began to whisper.
• Some changelings still remembered the era of “sharing”. Sharing did not yield much love, but it was enough that changelings no longer went hungry. They picked up Thorax's old teachings again; quite a few even defied the ban and secretly reverted to their hatched state, and, regarding the imprisoned Ocellus as their spiritual guide, tried to oppose Queen Chrysalis.
• There were also more pragmatic changelings, gathered around the retired officer Pharynx, who believed it did not matter whether they “shared” or “plundered” — a return to Thorax's era, or even to the earlier hive era, was acceptable, because the ultimate aim was only one thing: that no changeling go hungry again. And Chrysalis, who could not deliver what she had promised, should pay the price for breaking faith.
• Of course not every changeling wanted to go back; many were “looking forward”. Among the hive's leadership many of Chrysalis's followers were defending her “plundering”, but in the face of endless doubt they too began to wonder whether the Queen had lost the iron resolve and sharpness of her earlier years — how could a ruthless ruler allow dissidents such licence? The leader of this faction was the head of the Changeling Central Intelligence Agency, 欺诈者. He believed in “plundering”, but did not think Chrysalis was still the best choice to lead the changelings to glory; perhaps the new age needed a more radical new leader.
• 27 October 1005, the Changeling Civil War. Hatching-faction riots brought on by severe famine. The rioting changelings broke into granaries and into prisons. They freed Ocellus and declared an independent Harmonist Republic of Changelingia in eastern Changelingia, with Ocellus as its leader. The troops sent to suppress them then split as well: many members of the Changeling imperial army struck out on their own. Refusing to fight the new republic, they left the front, chose the retired officer Pharynx as their military leader, and organised a military government called the Changeling Free Legion, forming a temporary alliance with Ocellus's Harmonist Republic. This failure to suppress the revolt made the hive doubt Queen Chrysalis's decisions even more, and the contradictions within the “plunder faction” broke out openly. The head of changeling intelligence, 欺诈者, declared that Queen Chrysalis had been corrupted by “friendship” and could no longer lead the country, that the Changeling Empire needed a thorough renewal, and founded Holy Changelingia. Queen Chrysalis naturally refused to recognise any of these forces; the Changeling Empire declared war on the Harmonist Republic of Changelingia, the Changeling Free Legion and Holy Changelingia all at once, and the Changeling Civil War began.

1007; New Era Year 5

• 28 June 1007, the assassination of Tirek. While inspecting and promoting industrialisation policy on the Griffonian continent, Tirek was shot through the head by a single bullet from the “Arcane Magic Bullet Heavy Sniper Rifle” specially built by the two brothers Flim and Flam. The Grogar's Bell in Tirek's keeping was stolen by Flim and Flam, and “the Manehattan Project” was launched.
