The Discord Legion is a resistance force based in the Endless Free Forest, with its capital at the Endless Forest. It borders the southern edge of the Equestrian Empire to the north, the Duchy of Ponyville to the east, the Equestrian Education Association Direct-Administered Region to the west, and the Appleloosa Dominion and Quarry Farm Dominion to the south.
The Legion is led by Discord, who commands an army of forest animals and a handful of ponies in a guerrilla war harassing the Empire's borders. Although Discord claims to fight for Harmonism to atone for his actions, his methods have grown increasingly extreme over time. Discord holds the currently unique ideology of “Harmonic Revanchism”.
At the start of the game the Discord Legion is in the United Resistance faction alongside the Starlight Resistance and Free Equestria.
History
Discord still jokes around as he always did, but his purpose has changed. He used to joke simply because that was his nature; now he uses jokes to hide his guilt. There is no doubt that Discord slipped up. In the Final Battle he lost his magic — and lost the pony who meant the entire world to him.
But as a draconequus who once spent a thousand years in a stone statue, Discord's state of mind is far steadier than that of the ponies. Discord fled to the Everfree Forest, where, together with Zecora, he assembled a group that could hardly be called an “army”: a magic-less draconequus, a rhyming zebra, a few ponies who escaped Ponyville, a nest of cockatrices, two bears, a lion, a hydra, two pigs, a sea serpent, and a great many cardboard boxes...
During their days in the Everfree Forest they played hide-and-seek with the Empire's search parties. Discord learned alchemy from Zecora, and Zecora learned about magic and spells from Discord — though neither of them knew how to cast anything any more.
In the winter of 1000, Zecora decided to return to the zebra tribes to support their resistance against the changelings. Discord stayed in the Everfree Forest, organising his army of forest animals and sheltering more ponies fleeing from Ponyville and elsewhere in Equestria. As the Triumvirate's army was bogged down in the snows of the Crystal Empire, Discord went on the offensive; using alchemy and the magic left in the ruins scattered through the Everfree Forest, his ragtag legion actually managed to drive the Imperial army out of the forest.
In the spring of 1001, guided by the idea of “the forest surrounding the town”, Discord's legion became a problem the Empire could not handle. Discord contacted Starlight Glimmer and Sunset Shimmer, putting the Empire in the position of fighting on two fronts. They are still far from overthrowing the Empire, but at least they are stuck to its boot like chewing gum.
