- Summer 990 (S03E01), the Crystal Empire's thousand-year seal was broken. King Sombra returned to the Crystal Empire. Protected by Twilight Sparkle, the Crystal Empire's current princess Cadance and her husband Shining Armor, the Crystal Heart drove Sombra out.
- Autumn 990 (S03E13), Twilight Sparkle perfected the secret magic Star Swirl had left behind and was crowned “Princess of Friendship”.
- (Equestria Girls) Sunset Shimmer, missing for years, suddenly returned, stole Twilight Sparkle's crown and fled to the other world. Twilight Sparkle pursued and defeated her, resolving the crisis. Sunset Shimmer also realised her mistake and chose to stay on Earth.
