The Starlight Resistance is a nation in the north-east of Equestria. To its west lies the Imperial Ministry of Defence Direct-Administered Region; to its south it borders the Equestrian Empire; to its east, the Manehattan Commercial League; and to its north, the Badlands.
The Starlight Resistance is in the United Resistance faction together with the Discord Legion and Free Equestria. It remains hostile to the Equestrian Empire and its client states.
Introduction

The Empress of Friendship has raised an iron net of desire; beneath the snow lie the ambitions of those who would rule. Friendship has been twisted and remade, and a new order descends upon the land with a single signed agreement.
Yet some ponies still refuse to bow to the iron hoof. The dictator of old, now the legitimate heir of Harmony, has returned to Our Town. Winter is coming, and Our Town lights the only torch of the season. The suffering come from far away, the patriots are full of fighting spirit, and they swear to retake their homeland and bring Harmony back to Equestria.
Welcome to the Resistance. Enduring hardship and sleeping on their arms, the patriots gather in Our Town, where the purest patriotic fervour is concentrated. The beacon of Harmony waits — waits for the day they return to Canterlot. That is every pony's ideal, and their most beautiful hope.

History
The Road of Exile
In the Final Battle at the end of 999, the Triumvirate's power shattered the will of every species to resist. To the very last moment of the war, reinforcements never arrived. Having lost most of her magic, Starlight Glimmer tried to interrupt the Triumvirate's spellcasting, but only slightly delayed the tragedy. She was wounded and knocked unconscious, and was saved by Trixie, who had been hiding in the shadows.
Having lost most of her magic and collapsed from exhaustion, Starlight Glimmer was taken to Ponyville Central Hospital for treatment, and fled it before the Triumvirate's pursuers arrived — only to hear that Trixie had already thrown in her lot with Cozy Glow. Furious as she was, Starlight Glimmer could see that Ponyville was about to fall and had to set out on the run. She decided to go to Our Town: she knew its residents, and it was remote enough to be safe.
By then Starlight Glimmer had been marked a war criminal by the newly formed Royal Committee. Taking advantage of the disorder in Ponyville caused by the Ponyville Agricultural Reform, Starlight Glimmer hijacked a train bound for Manehattan and escaped Ponyville together with Sugar Belle and Big Mac, who had also fled the town. Because Meyer's improvised order delayed the train's safety inspection and pulled the Ponyville security force off its posts, the “ghost train” departed unmonitored.
Inside a tunnel, Starlight Glimmer smelled a strong odour of gas and explosives, and then saw the lights of the train from Manehattan at the other end — she jumped clear, surviving by a hair the huge explosion when the two trains collided. Big Mac went missing, and Starlight Glimmer and Sugar Belle decided to walk to Our Town.
The Resistance Never Ceases
In the autumn of 1000, Starlight Glimmer reached Our Town and settled there, evading the Empire's pursuit. Cut off from news, in this remote corner of the north-eastern Equestrian mainland, Our Town had not even received word of the Final Battle. When Starlight told them that Canterlot had fallen, the townsfolk were terrified, quickly drew together, and hastily pieced together a crude but determined rebel force.
In the spring of 1001, Starlight Glimmer made contact with Discord, who was waging guerrilla warfare in the Everfree Forest. Although Discord had likewise lost most of his magic, an allied force able to act in concert was welcome news. Starlight and Discord quickly formed the United Resistance, intending to attack the Empire while Cozy Glow's position was still insecure. But it was too late: by the spring of 1001 a year had passed since the Final Battle, and with the Royal Committee's help Cozy Glow had already eliminated most of the opposition and consolidated her rule. The resistance fell back step by step, and Starlight Glimmer's forces were forced back to Our Town. Fortunately the Empire was then preoccupied with the pressure of the Crystal Empire Summer Offensive and had no strength left to attack the well-defended Our Town, so it established a military district led by Snips and Snails, giving the resistance room to breathe.
Before Starlight Glimmer and Discord were cut off from each other by land, Discord gave her something found in Twilight's castle — a notebook. Starlight knew it was the diary that connected the two worlds. When she finally made contact with the human world through the notebook, she could not hold back her tears, so that at the other end Sunset Shimmer, looking at the blurred writing in the diary, felt only confusion.
The Winter Torch
Time passed quickly. Starlight busied herself organising and building here and there, felt excitement at hearing of the zebras' small victories on the distant changeling continent, and felt pain when she remembered that her old friend Trixie had served Cozy Glow for two years now. Because she had been Twilight Sparkle's student, Starlight Glimmer became Equestria's recognised legitimate heir of Harmony. Ponies oppressed by the Empire set out one after another for Our Town, bringing the resistance fresh blood. After many upheavals only one friend, Sunburst, was left to walk the road with Starlight — but in any case, Starlight believed in hope. The seemingly unshakable empire the “Triumvirate” built is no more than a castle on sand; only the tide of liberation is eternal.
It is the winter of 1002. The resistance's spark has not gone out: inheriting the will of Celestia and Twilight Sparkle, it keeps the flame of Harmony alive. It has become a haven, a lamp for Equestria, lighting the hope of every pony.
