The Kirin Community is not an entirely stable nation: when a kirin's emotions become unstable they may turn into a Nirik, and too many Niriks bring disaster. The “Breath of Foals”, which eases the emergence of Niriks, has therefore become a daily necessity for kirins, and the industries around growing and processing it are a pillar of the economy. Meanwhile, Tirek to the north also has designs on the kirins, so their development must proceed with great caution.
