'''Kirin Community''' is a nation south of Kirinsor, bordered by the Celestial Sea to the west, Unicorn Paradise to the east, and the Dragon Lands to the north. It is a young nation; after opening up, a relatively stable domestic environment and the kirins' strengths brought rapid economic growth.

The country is roughly divided into seven regions: the capital region, the west, the south, the north, the east, and the Kirin Forest. Because of the long-standing “Silence” policy and factors such as terrain and resources, the economy is developed along the western coast and based mainly on industry and commerce, with a high urbanisation rate, while the east is more backward, dominated by traditional villages and workshops.

The Kirin Community is not an entirely stable nation: when a kirin's emotions become unstable they may turn into a Nirik, and too many Niriks bring disaster. The '''“Breath of Foals”''', which eases the emergence of Niriks, has therefore become a daily necessity for kirins, and the industries around growing and processing it are a pillar of the economy. Meanwhile, Tirek to the north also has designs on the kirins, so their development must proceed with great caution.

== Country Overview ==
Nirik and kirin are the two sides of one creature: when faced with anger and danger, the Nirik within a kirin awakens and burns everything in fire; yet when flowers grow again on the scorched earth, the kirin returns with new hope.

This cycle has repeated for thousands of years. The kirins never had much contact with the outside world, and never built a stable civilisation.

Decades ago, another kirin leader stepped down after a Nirik riot. Facing a land that had to be rebuilt from nothing, the singing star beloved by all kirins — Rain Shine — was chosen as the new leader. As another cycle approached, she decided to change her country's fate in her own way: she gave up her singing career and her voice, and by her own example introduced the innovative “Silence” across the land: “if there is no arguing, there will be no anger.” Language, writing, poetry, drama... the disappearance of all communication and creation bought the Kirin Community peace. For the first time it enjoyed decades of stability and development — but was it worth it? Even Rain Shine herself suffered under the Silence, and all the kirins had accepted the price: it was worth it; this might be their only way out.

But the millennia of cycles had not been without gain: each generation of kirin leaders passed on their wisdom and strength, so that a more capable kirin could succeed them. The next leader would be Autumn Blaze.

Five years ago, guided by the Map of Friendship, Applejack and Fluttershy knocked on the door of the ancient Kirin land. With their help Autumn Blaze ended the decades of “Silence”, successfully persuaded Rain Shine, and began planning for the kirins' future.

“Anger can be controlled” is this would-be leader's conviction. Autumn Blaze believes the Kirin Community need not choose between the two — neither “Silence” nor a Nirik riot. This is not a new idea; over thousands of years more than one leader tried it, and each time the civilisation vanished in fire. What is different this time is that ponies and other creatures have already built worldwide channels of communication through the School of Friendship. The kirins will no longer be alone; ponies and other creatures will help them face the challenges ahead. Just as Applejack and Fluttershy showed, so long as the kirins embrace the idea of friendship, the cycle of their history will not repeat.

Under Autumn Blaze's leadership the Kirin Community spent five years cultivating and expanding the planting of the “Breath of Foals” — a rare flower with a very long growing cycle, and the only antidote to the “Silence”. Only now has the country gradually lifted the Silence from west to east, and Autumn Blaze is finally ready to formally take up Rain Shine's staff and lead the kirins into the future. But when the kirins finally finished their reforms and looked up at the outside world again, all they saw was a world in pieces.

Perhaps “friendship” is not as powerful as was proclaimed a few years ago? Perhaps the kirins should have slept longer, and not woken from the dream so soon?
